New Pup

Published by Barry Haatvedt under Uncategorized

When you first get your new pup home, here are a few things you need to do:1. Your puppy will be a little scared and confused so it will need reassurance into its new environment. Let everyone in the home hold the puppy. Talk to the puppy so that it get used to everyone who lives in your home. You need to introduce the puppy to its new pack ….You And Your Family!!! You also need to introduce the new puppy to any pets you may already have. ..But remember… Never put a small puppy with a larger animal because the puppy can get injured. Wolf pup bones can break easily. Always supervise meetings between your puppy and larger animals until the puppy gets a little larger. Usually, by about 3 months old, they can run and play with larger dogs.2. Decide what you will feed your pup. Remember, puppies have very delicate stomachs, and the slightest change in food can cause them upset.3. Kennel train your new puppy in the house to sleep in his kennel. Put the kennel in a quiet place somewhere in the house , where the pup knows he can go there to be alone, or when he is tired. Its his safe place! Don’t bother him or her there. Its their own domain. Also, begin toilette training as soon as possible as well.4. After a couple of weeks when the pup starts getting used to his new home and family, the training begins. It s important to take the puppy riding in a car, and get the pup used to going out in public and seeing strangers and hearing sounds so that the puppy will learn that these new things aren’t going to hurt him. He will be more comfortable going to public places as he grows up. Important….. always have your puppy and adult Wolfdog on a leash when going somewhere. A Wolfdog is prone to taking off and running and they can sometimes be hard to catch in a new place. They also seem to be less understanding of what a moving car is all about and they can easily get run over. Make sure your pup as his shots before being allowed on the grounds visited by other dogs because we never know what other animals have been there and if they were infected Parvo or some other virus that could kill your Wolfdog.
